Apple, Lemon & Ginger Juice

Apple, Lemon, Ginger Juice

Apple, Lemon, Ginger Juice

I'm really enjoying fresh juices at the moment, and this has to be one of the most refreshing and delicious that I've made so far. Green juices, made from green vegetables, are the most alkalizing and nutritious and that's ideally what you want to drink the most of on a daily basis. But this apple, lemon and ginger juice is a great cleansing juice and good in smaller quantities.

It's high in Vitamins A, B and C, cleanses the liver and will help remove mucus from the body. Apples and lemons have anti-cancer properties and are high in antioxidants and flavonoids. In lemons these anti-cancer compounds are found in the fruit, pith, peel, seeds and juice, with the highest concentration in the pith and lemon rind, so this juice is a great way to take them in. Lemons also help lower cholesterol and are a great source of vitamin C. They have a beneficial effect on the liver, bile and digestion. Half a lemon juice daily raises the citrate level of your blood which may help dissolve kidney stones. Apples help lower the risk of heart attack and stroke and assist bowel function. Ginger helps to soothe upset stomach, overcome nausea (including morning sickness), vertigo and motion sickness, fights colds and improves circulation. In some cases has been found to alleviate symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and can help with flatulence and improve digestion.

Apple, Lemon, Ginger Juice

Apple, Lemon, Ginger Juice

Ingredients (all organic where possible):

2-3 apples (granny smith or golden delicious work best, organic if possible)
1/2 lemon (organic is best of course, but at least try to get one that hasn't been waxed)
1 piece fresh ginger about 1 inch long

Instructions:

Throw the 1/2 lemon in the juicer, seeds, peel and all. Add the ginger. I follow up with the apples to make sure everything else gets pushed through. I remove the stems and cut the apples into quarters because the input chute to my juicer is quite small, but if your juicer can handle it just remove the apple stems.

Serve over ice and drink immediately.

Makes about 1 glass of juice.

Variations:

  • Add a few mint leaves to the juicer
  • Add a handful of strawberries to the juicer

Hello, the apple, lemon, and ginger juice sounds delicious and I am looking forward to trying it. However, I was wonder if limes would serve as the same benefits of the lemon? Please advise.

Hi Tonia, thanks for asking. Yes limes will have the same, or very similar benefits. Limes are more plentiful where I am, and I love them even more than lemons (which I adore), so I often use them interchangeably in recipes. 🙂

I don’t have a juicer, just a blender. Starting a few months ago, I have a breakfast drink of 1/5 pineapple, 1 banana, 1 apple, 1 orange, 1/4 cucumber, green tea liquid, 4 tablespoons yoghurt, 1 teaspoon psyllium fibre and 1 tablespoon DF Silica.

My question is, can I use my blender and still throw in the whole lemon (seeds, rind and all?) I thought there was soemthing unhealthy about eating lemon and/or orange rinds?

I would try using cheese cloth, a nutmilk bag, or a paint strainer bag. You have to filter the small fibers so you don’t end up with an upset stomach. But yes rinds and all for extra nutrients, lemon rinds make for a more sour taste.

      Yes – I do this

I have the following drink every afternoon at 2 for an energy boost. I throw it all in a blender, peel, skin and all –

      1 apple
      1/2 lemon
      Chunk of ginger
      pinch salt
      splash fresh maple syrup
      dash turmeric
      dash cayenne
      water as appropriate

I have a Blender, only, no juicer. This recipe sounds great but i wonder if i will be eating all of this, if it will be very thick?? I don’t want to see or taste the rinds, etc, Pulp??

Hi Sharon, no problem, you can do it in a blender, with a few modifications. Actually, here in Mexico where I am at the moment fresh jugos (juices) are very popular, and I rarely see a juicer at the jugos stands. They use a blender instead. So definitely peel the lemons, because the rinds can be bitter. Put the lemon, apple and ginger into your blender. You’ll have to add water, I can’t really say how much because I haven’t made it this way yet (although I have been thinking of doing it for the past week or two. I’ll do it and write up the recipe at some point). Just try to guess how much water by the consistency. I would try just a little less than what would cover the fruit. Add more as needed to get the right consistency. Then blend thoroughly. Strain to get rid of the pulp. Use the finest mesh strainer you can find. Drink immediately. All fresh juice should be consumed immediately, but done by the blender method it will tend to oxidize even faster than it would using a juicer. I really love fresh juice made this way. When you get a chance to make it, let me know what you think.

Eat kiwi fruit daily – has lots of magnesium.
Also take a magnesium citrate supplement (found at a pharmacy dept of any store)
Magnesium simply dissolves the calcium stones thus reducing your pain.

Juicers are the best thing since sliced bread, no matter wht an MD tells you. Juicing clears up things tht meds won’t do!!! Cabbage juice doesn’t taste great but if u hve a lot of feelings it will start pulling the Mercury from those filling out of ur body, I noticed tht my mouth had a bad metallic taste after juicing cabbage for a week, but skin was clear, felt better, just mixing apples or any sweet fruit will cover cabbage taste, and add ginger, it’s also a detox

I tried this juice this morning, and flowed by having lemon water as my drink for the day I have an amazing change in energy! I’ve been so sluggish lately, possibly from the ridiculous amounts of snow/being cooped up in the house and eating junky foods as of late, but I love it! Thanks 🙂

I love this. I do not have a juicer or a blender but I used my bullet. I was really sluggish before I tried this and at first was thrown off due to the spiciness of the ginger but it was very much needed. It was a bright flavor and has given me much energy in a short amount of time. This is something that I will continue to do for the health and convince of it. Thank you for the idea.

Just came down with a case of gout man very painful week later OK with Meds. Been checking on what to prevent this from happening again and your recipe hit all ingredients needed. I added 2 more items because cherries have
anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties. And a shot of Hornitos Tequila for my taste. This drink can out excellent that’s for making me a new chief. I bought my Jack La Lanne’s Power Juicer Pro many years ago used it maybe twice .Just pulled it out today. Thanks for everything happy juicing. Mike

Can you prepare this in advance?

    • Donna

      March 23, 2017 at 7:45 pm

You can, but as soon as it’s juiced it starts oxidating and losing nutrients, like all fresh juices. So it’s best if you can to drink it soon after juicing.
